Saline and Steelend Community Development Trust was approved by the Charity Commissioner in June, set up as a SCIO. The Trust will be the lead body to manage and co-ordinate the implementation of the Community Action Plan which was produced in 2011. The Trust had its inaugural meeting on 18th June, at which the first Trustees were appointed, and is now actively recruiting members. Membership is open to anyone over the age of 16 who lives of works in the Saline and Steelend Community Council area, and there is no charge for membership. David Chisholm, one of the founding Trustees, said “Having the Trust will be a great addition to the community as it will be able to support other community groups in applying for funding, and we can now look at bigger projects such as taking on land or buildings that we couldn’t do before.”
